Woke up in Ceduna, after a really cold night. Everything is
frozen over, even the dew on our bikes.
Off to a really slow start, because of this, so packing up
took awhile.
Finally we were ready to go,
You know on the old movies, how you see someone getting onto
a horse and then falling off the other side, well its not really that funny in
real life.
Due to the way our bikes were stabilized for the night (so
they didn't fall on us in the tents basically) Sandra proceeded to get on hers
, and was straight off the other side. Whilst she lay there pinned under her
bike, pondering her navel. Marica finally looked around and saw her lying there
relaxing. Then she finally took off all of her gear, her gloves, her helmet and
the huge thing we call a back pack, and made her way to Sandra, who by this
time had extricated herself from under her fully loaded Ninja, and we attempted
to lift it.
Now the bare weight of the Ninja is about 170kg, give or
take. Then add all of the gear. I would of been very funny for anyone watching,
and there were people watching.......
So we proceeded to unpack the bike that we had just packed,
and lifted it up, just to re pack it AGAIN. No damage of course, due to the
Oggy Knobs doing their job.
So we are ready to start off yet again...... but wait, of course Sandra's bike wouldn't
start after falling over, so we sit there trying and trying and trying. Give it
a little push, and still nothing.
Finally she backfired, (the Ninja, not Sandra) and we were
off. Our plan was to make it to Eucla, just past the WA border.
Turned of the highway past Yalata to go to the Head of Bight, to see the humpback whales. We were not disappointed, there were over a dozen in the water, close to shore.
We stopped at the Nullarbor Roadhouse for fuel, and saw an
interesting, well fun anyways, way of getting to work. I mean don't we all fly
our planes to work.
From there through to the Boarder and the quarantine
checkpoint, closely followed by yet another road block, RBT point. Sandra in
her usual form, started chatting to the local police, and organised a visit to
the station for another badge swap, the next morning.
Then pulled into the Eucla camp site for the night, well
actually a budget cabin tonight, as the camp grounds were just gravel and hard
dirt. At this point we had to change our clocks back another 45min.
Went to look around to see if there was anything for dinner,
and stumbled across a pub, surprise, surprise, food and drink out here are very
expensive, so decided to cook our own in the camp kitchen, after a very quick,
and productive drink.
We met and got chatting to a couple of guys, waiting for
their wives, and talked about the usual.......Where you from, where you going
etc, and then just as we were finishing up, one of them said, "Yours going
in the right direction, here have a couple of scatchies that we scratched and
won $20. We can't cash them in, in SA so here is a present for you girls, have
a safe trip".
