20 August 2016

Finally we are set to go,......Somebody's daughter thought that she was really going to miss her mum, and decided to get admitted into hospital, to try and delay the departure.

Well it didn't totally work. Yes we did leave late, but we did leave, so sorry about that Lia, but not even a Hardware infection is going to stop us, (note we did wait until we were sure you weren't having surgery)

So here are the bikes and the kit that needs to go with us. Bing on the Tetris skill that you all know we have.

BEFORE

AFTER

Not bad if I do say so myself.

Well we were off to an amazing start already.........what else could go wrong, I mean we were already 4 hours behind Marica's grueling schedule (because of her daughter).
So not only did we get rained on all the way from Canberra to Yass, but when the gale force winds, finally dried us off, and we were battling the blindingly glaring sun reflecting into our eyes, off the saturated roads. The heaven opened up and we were painfully pelted with hail...... What fun.......So now, not only were we drenched and in pain, our visibility was down to nothing, and we were hitting a maximum whopping speed of 40kph.....

But wait,..... there's more.

With out Bluetooth communication units Not communicating with each other, when Marica lost her entire load of luggage, and decided to drag it behind her instead of on her bike. She had to remove her sodden gloves, and helmet, before casually ringing me, and informing me that she was "slightly behind me" and had lost her load. Could I please come back and help.

I happily obliged, thinking that "slightly behind me" was a mere couple of meters, (maybe in Vespa speak it is), but I turned around and road at 100kph for what felt like 10min, looking for a stranded rider on the side of the road.

There she was FINALLY........

So we redistributed the load. leaving her with ONLY her backpack, and EVERYTHING else on my bike.........Good thing we had a REAL bike on this trip.

Finally after 630pm, we pulled up to the first motel we came across, only to find out, that they were fully booked, as were most other places in town.
There was a riffle association meet on, and there was only one room left, at the pub, on the other side of town.
So reluctantly we headed there and had a beer, (or two).
Played some darts (amazingly Marica got a bullseye), and sat by the fire to defrost.

On a brighter note, met a lovely gentleman in Yass, Daryl, from Christmas Island, (Daryl hope you enjoy your adventure here on the big island), and had a great chat with some locals in the pub at Lockhart.
